Department of Plant Protection
The major aims of the Department of Plant Protection are to provide basic information on the diagnosis, biology and control of pests; parasitic and non-parasitic diseases, including the weeds that are problem in cultivated plants. Diagnosis, biology and control methods of insects, mites and nematodes that cause economic losses in crop production, including the diagnosis of viruses, bacteria and fungi, biology of weeds; interaction of cultivated plants with pests and diseases and biological control methods to develop and apply control methods against diseases, pests and weeds.
In line with the aims mentioned above, our students; having a Plant Protection background knowledge, are able to diagnose and identify harmful organisms that cause loss in agricultural products, be conscious of environmental and human health and food safety, apply environmental and human health-sensitive methods of control methods, carry out scientific studies in the field, equipped with knowledge and skills, innovative and ethical values; they will graduate as the agricultural engineers who have internalized values, are aware of the realities of the world, have adopted the importance of lifelong learning.
Students who graduate from the department will have the capabilities to develop solutions to Plant Protection problems where they work, especially in Kyrgyzstan.
Scientific researches carried out in the Department of Plant Protection
• Soil microbiology, microorganisms around plant roots,
• Identifying and solving residue problems of various pesticides in the field
• Detection of plant diseases and pests that are a problem,
• The use and development of classical and modern methods in the diagnosis of diseases and pests that are a problem in agricultural products,
• Development of environmentally friendly methods of struggle against diseases and pests that are a problem in agricultural products,
• Development of plant varieties resistant to diseases and pests,
• Development of antifungal and bio-activator microbial products for plant protection.
